Be Thou My Vision/This is What I Know

This is What I Know

Words & Music by Jan Garrett

This is what I know: That we are all connected
The universe reflected in each shining part
And everywhere I go I recognize the faces
All of my relations in this one heart

And all I need is already looking thru these eyes
Nearer than my breathing, closer than hands and feet
We are dreaming together all the gifts of heaven and earth
And so I receive all I can be

This is what I know: That we are all connected
The universe reflected in each shining part
And everywhere I go I recognize the faces
All of my relations in this one heart

And all I need is already looking thru these eyes
Nearer than my breathing, closer than hands and feet
We are dreaming together all the gifts of heaven and earth
And so I receive all I can be

And now I let it go, with such appreciation
With sheer exhilaration now I set it free
And so it is, and so be it
When I sing it I can see it
I welcome us in, and now we begin…..

Amen……………..Amen……………..Amen……………..Amen

Solstice Song

Solstice Song

Words and music by Jan Garrett

Deep in the darkest winter night
Here with my candle burning
Cozy and warm inside the light
Now that the year is turning

What does the future hold in store
Where has our journey brought us
How can we learn from what’s gone before
What has experience taught us?

We are the future
We can reach for the stars
We feel at home in our own back yard
We want to be who we are

Friendship will light the darkest hours
True love will hold the vision
Peace and good will on earth is ours
Let it be our decision

Lo How A Rose E’er Blooming

Lo How A Rose E’er Blooming

Lo, how a rose e’er blooming, from tender stem hath sprung
Of Jesse’s lineage coming, as men of old have sung
It came a floweret bright, amidst the cold of winter
When half-spent was the night

Isaiah t’was fortold it, the rose I have in mind
With Mary we behold it, the virgin mother kind
To show God’s love a-right, she bore to us a saviour
When half-spent was the night

All Through The Night

Sleep my child and peace attend thee, All through the night.
Guardian angels God will send thee, All through the night
Soft the drowsy hours are creeping, Hill and vale in slumber sleeping
I, my watchful vigil keeping, All through the night.

While the moon her watch is keeping, All through the night.
While the weary world is sleeping, All through the night.
O’er my spirit gently stealing, Visions of delight revealing,
Breathes a pure and holy feeling, All through the night.
All the while my heart is healing, All through the night

Mothering

Mothering

Written by Jan Garrett, Wednesday, February 11, 2004

It must be because your earliest memories are of her,
Even the ones you can’t recall.
She was there in your lovely warm cloud,
Her sunny melodies winding thru those huge days,
Her capable touch arranging all your safe expanded moments.

Because without ever quite saying it, And certainly without willing it,
Your first loyalty is to her,
Your first impulse to share the secret most delicious view,
 This quietest afternoon snowfall,
Each Individually formed flake sifting down,
And the exact deep green shade of The fir branches,
Their crisp minty scent muffled now in the long cold.

Whether she hovers now as an amiable Angel,
Or whether she has been absorbed again
Into the bright Holy Mother who births us all,
You treasure her blood in your veins,
The echo of her original heartbeat in yours,
And the absolute certainty that beyond all form,
 Beyond time and tempests,
You are heard….and seen….and loved beyond measure.

Beyond Faith

Beyond Faith

Words and music by JD Martin

What did I do
To deserve love so amazing
To know a heart so full of grace
When I look at you
Sometimes I stop breathing
You are so beautiful
In your eyes I see

Beyond faith
Beyond understanding
Beyond Earth
Beyond everlasting
In your love I breathe
The breath of God

Here in my heart
The doors are standing open
Where you lead me I will follow
Through the darkest night
I will not stop believing
It will be alright
In your eyes I see

Oh I am changed forever
Every time our souls touch
I find my way
Lost in this holy love

Out of the Silence

Out of the Silence

Words & Music by Jan Garrett

Out of the silence, into the night
Out of the darkness into the light
Where there was nothing, something comes to be
Take a breath and see the possibility

Out of the morning, soft as a summer breeze
Out of the struggle into a life of ease
There in the quiet, the turning of the tide
Out of the darkness into the light

Out of the silence into the sound
Millions of voices singing all around
Have we the courage to simply let it be
And listen carefully to hear the harmony

Over the rainbow and under the sun
Everything’s blooming, the new day has begun
Here’s the beginning, we’ve known it all along
Out of the silence into the song
